Glasgows Gallery of Modern
Art is located in the very heart of the city right next to George
Square. The building itself is something to behold and is a rightful
place to house an art collection from post war Glasgow.
The Gallery attracts over 7 million visitors each year and is the
second most popular contemporary art gallery outside of London. The
programme is to hold a diverse range of temporary exhibitions and
workshops. The Gallery displays works by local and international artists.
There are four floors to the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow and
these are named earth, water, fire and air. Opened in 1996 the Gallery
houses a number of artists work including works by Niki de Saint Phalle,
David Hockney, Sebastiao Salgado, Andy Warhol and Eduard Bersudsky
as well as Scottish artists such as John Bellany and Ken Curry.
The rooftop café has now changed into a dedicated information
and access studio that has artist's talks and workshops for visitors
of all ages.
In the basement is the learning library complete with café,
Internet access, multimedia, art and general book lending facilities.
Situated at Royal Exchange Square in Glasgow the Gallery is easy to
find and served well by public transport links.
