Glasgow's McLellan Galleries
are appropriately named after the builder Archibald McLellan who died
in 1856. The building is now used as an exhibition space after being
bought by Glasgow City Corporation.
After being destroyed by fire the Galleries were re-opened in 1990
after a £3 million refurbishment making them one of the largest,
high quality, air conditioned temporary exhibition space outside London.
The McLellan Galleries now host exhibitions from trade shows to model
railway exhibitions, however at the moment the gallery is hosting
the Art Treasures of Kelvingrove while the Kelvingrove Art gallery
is closed for refurbishment.
Free admissions mean that this is one attraction in Glasgow that you
should not miss. With exhibitions changing on a regular basis and
which have included everything from Raphael paintings to an epilogue
from someone who travelled round the world on a pushbike you can be
sure of something interesting to add to your day out in Glasgow.
Facilities included within are free guided tours, gallery shop and
toilet facilities. There is also a small café and there is
access available for wheelchair users. A Costa Coffee Cart has recently
been introduced selling a range of coffee's, cakes and baguettes.
The McLellan Galleries are located on one of Glasgow's busiest streets
making them easy to find and accessible by bus, underground or even
by foot.
